Platinum Disco - Nisemonogatari OP

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm18431451

Things went south when I found out the Niconico player had a replay button.

Song loop runtime: Approximately 6 hours and counting… no joke.

I also followed suit last season, so I guess I’ll do it again.

  1. Natsuyuki Rendezvous—After last season’s Sakamichi no Apollon, I decided to be more open to josei shows. It was a good call picking this show up. The romance is pretty great and the story’s defining twist it definitely thought provoking for both the characters themselves and viewers alike.
  2. Sword Art Online—My thoughts exactly - “MMORPG anime done right. MVP for action genre”
  3. Binbougami ga!—I’m really loving the balance between the serious and comedic elements. It sorta reminds me of how the Sora no Otoshimono series ended up being for me. Somehow, the show moved me enough with its emotional moments - something I did not expect prior to watching.
  4. Kokoro Connect— I’ll take this one word for word as well. “It’s a story of character development, fixing everyone’s problems/traumas with body swapping as the driving mechanism. The potential’s there.” Adding on, if they keep the same pace and style all throughout, saying I’ll be pleased would be an understatement.
  5. Tari Tari— I made a video on this - Its a pretty good show overall. Superb animation. K-ON with music, story, and dudes.
  6. Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita— I made a video on this - On the 1st episode, an online commenter said it best: “I went in not knowing what to expect. I finished still not knowing what to expect.” Its kinda like the Haiyore for intellectuals (and otakus?), though that’s not saying you have to be smart to watch it. Pretty funny, insane, and in most ways unpredictable. Heart-attack inducing OP with music by nano.RIPE. Apart from SAO, probably my favorite show of the season.
  7. Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!—”Imouto Russian Roulette…” The joke I always refer to when I think about this show is, “The twist is that they’re all his sister.” On a serious note, it is the guilty pleasure show of the season. I get pretty worked up with the brief moments this show has, which means I guess this show is doing something right. As a side note, Miyabi is probably the cutest character of the season. I don’t care what anyone thinks - the way she says “baka” is just too much.
  8. Joshiraku—Five minutes in, you can tell the show does not intend to take itself seriously. Its pretty funny… some of the humor flies over my head, but its still worth watching.
  9. Rinne no Lagrange Season 2—Well, I’m going to put it up here even though I’m not up to the second season yet. I’m half way through the first season and I’m liking it enough where it can do anything and still keep me watching. That, and I did read blogs talking about the yuri. That’s basically my fallback reason.
  10. Accel World—”Porky sucks as a protagonist” If it wasn’t for my laptop being worth over $2K, I’d probably punch the screen everytime I see him. Its redeeming qualities can be found in its supporting and other main characters.
  11. Hyouka—”The only episode that sticks out in my mind is the one in which Chitanda gets mad and doesn’t know why. Because of how absurd that was. That’s not good.” My thoughts exactly. I guess the only reasons I can stay for the ride are that: 1) The animation is great, 2) I’m about 2/3 through its run already 3) The mysteries suck, but I love slice-of-life and cannot give it up.
  12. Moyashimon Returns - I picked this up despite not watching the first season. Honestly, I stay for the ClariS OP, and then I sorta get stuck with the show. Its not a bad thing though… the show isn’t actually that bad. If educational shows were more funny and had ClariS singing the OPs, I’d probably watch more educational programming.
  13. Uchuu Kyoudai - The show is pretty good, but I’m not sure how long it is going to last. The drama is starting to kick in a lot more in this second cour, which keeps me somewhat interested to say the least.
  14. Yuru Yuri S2 - Toshinou Kyouko. Enough said.

My short thoughts on the season

We have a very positive season here. Many of these shows have decent plots and pacing… or is Hyouka (I kid, I kid… mostly). Compared to last season, this summer season feels like it has more quality shows. Its kinda odd though considering that I’m watching a bit less this time around, though the saying “quality over quantity” isn’t just a random saying.

Seemingly enough, that saying may not apply next season. While quality cannot be accounted for so early in, we most definitely have some quantity with shows like Seitokai no Ichizon, Robotics;Notes, Little Busters!, Hayate no Gotoku, and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!… and these are only the anticipated ones. There are still quite a few shows that I haven’t mentioned that we may be singing praises (or hate) for about when we see them air. I just hope they’ll at least match the quality I’ve seen from this season.
